Yes, there was a Google Update

Google has confirmed that the search engine has indeed gone through an update which occured last week.

This is quite a common thing for Google to do. Sometimes its a minor update, and sometimes it’s a major update that changes the way we think about how websites appear on search engines.

However, the update that was rolled out last week was somewhat a ‘broad core update’ of no specific focus. Some sites may experience drops or gains, but Google advises that there was no particular reason to why this would happen.

In a tweet from Google’s liaison of search, Danny Sullivan, the tweet reiterates that, ‘there’s nothing wrong with pages that may now perform less well’ and added ‘the changes to our systems are benefiting pages that were previously under-rewarded’.

It goes on to outline the continuing importance of producing great content and its importance to search ranking.

If you noticed a fluctuation in your ranking since last week, here’s the official confirmation that an update did indeed happen, but unfortunately, there is no specific advice on how to make it better. Just keep doing good things.
